Short answers to how NourishNest works

How do I add something I ate?

Tap Add Food in the top bar. You can search the food list, enter something by hand, build it from a recipe, or start from your history. If you can't find it, choose “Can't find it? Add this food.” and fill in what you know — anything you leave blank stays unknown rather than being counted as zero.

Why does a nutrient say “insufficient data”?

Because at least one thing you logged has no published value for that nutrient. Rather than pretend the missing value is zero, NourishNest tells you the picture is incomplete.

Why don't my totals ever say I'm deficient?

Because a food log cannot show that. It shows what you recorded against general reference amounts for your stage. Anything about your body is a conversation for your healthcare professional.

How does the weekly plan work?

Open Plan to enter this week's groceries and recipes — by search, by hand, from a photo of a label or receipt, or as a recipe with its ingredients. Then use Analyze My Cart to see the nutrient coverage of the week you've planned.

How do I fix something I logged wrong?

Tap the ⋮ menu next to the entry. You can change the amount, serving, meal, or date, check its pregnancy considerations, save it as a favorite, duplicate it, or delete it.

Where does the pregnancy food-safety information come from?

From published FDA, CDC, USDA/FSIS, ACOG and EPA guidance. Every entry in the pregnancy food guide shows the reason, the source and the date it was last reviewed.

Can I ask a question in plain language?

Yes — open the Assistant from the top bar or the account menu. It answers questions about food, nutrients and food safety. It is not a clinician and it never diagnoses.

Where nutrition numbers come from

Every food shows how its figures were obtained, the source, and when they were last updated.

  • Verified nutrient dataMatched to a published entry in an authoritative food-composition database, value for value.
  • Nutrition-label dataTaken from the product's own Nutrition Facts label or published recipe nutrition, as printed.
  • Estimated nutrient dataA reference estimate for this kind of food. Real portions vary with variety, brand, growing conditions and cooking.
  • User-entered dataYou typed these numbers in. NourishNest uses them exactly as entered.
  • Unknown dataNo nutrition figures are stored for this food yet. Nothing is estimated in their place.

NourishNest never fills in a missing nutrient with a guess. Where a value is not known it is shown as unknown and left out of totals rather than counted as zero.

Coming later

These are planned, not working yet. Nothing in the app pretends they already do something.

  • Barcode scanningPoint the camera at a packaged food to start an entry from its label.
  • Food photo recognitionPhotograph a plate to get a suggested list of foods to confirm.
  • Restaurant meal analysisEnter a restaurant dish and get an estimated nutrient picture.
  • AI recipe generationGenerate a recipe idea from your gaps, stage and preferences.
  • Pantry trackingKeep what you already have on hand, so suggestions use it first.
  • Shopping integrationsSend a grocery list to a store or delivery service.
  • Partner meal-kit integrationsBring a partner meal kit's dishes in with their published nutrition.
  • Postpartum modeRecovery-focused guidance after birth instead of pregnancy-week content.
